Our Team

Veterinarian, Owner

Dr. Romanowski is a 1988 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. He then gained extensive experience working at a veterinary emergency clinic, as well as a mixed animal clinic where he was involved in the medicine and surgery of both small and large animals. In 1999 he opened Applewood Veterinary Hospital. He has a grown son and daughter, and shares his home with his lovely wife, their two cats, and their German Shepherd Luna who accompanies him on long hikes along the Niagara Escarpment. He has a love for sporting dogs and owns several Arabian horses. When he has some free time he likes traveling  to Florida, where he bikes, swims, and enjoys eating fresh local food. He speaks both Polish and English fluently.

Veterinarian

Dr. Grudzinski graduated from the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program at Wroclaw University in 1980. He moved to Canada and obtained his license from the College of Veterinarians of Ontario in 1995. He practiced mixed animal and emergency medicine, and he is especially interested in small animal surgery. Dr Grudzinski is an avid traveler. He travels to Poland very regularly, where is also practices veterinary medicine. He loves exploring new destinations or revisiting old favourites, attending various conferences, and even partakes in extended hiking aventures of even several weeks duration! He is a proud husband, father, and granfather. He is fluent in English, Polish and also speaks some Russian.

Veterinarian

Urszula has been drawn to animals ever since she can remember. When an intense interest in biology and science blossomed during her school years, pursuing a career in veterinary medicine seemed a perfect fit.  After graduating from the University of Toronto with a degree in Zoology, Urszula obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Guelph’s Ontario Veterinary College in 2011. She has since worked in the GTA and surrounding area. Though she has spent most of her life in Canada, she visits Poland (her country of birth) often, and is fluent in both English and Polish. She shares her life and home with her husband Darren, and their very senior Jack Russell Terrier Soda, Lucy the lovely standard poodle, Sable the cat, and their falconry birds . Having a great love of the outdoors, she spends her free time exploring the local fields and woodlots with the her birds and dogs, hiking, camping, and at the cottage. She also loves reading and playing volleyball.

Veterinary Technician

Monika started with Applewood Veterinary Hospital in 2005 and after a few years of absence she re-joined our team in 2017. Monika graduated from the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program at Wrocław University in Poland, and works at the clinic in the capacity of a veterinary technician (nurse). She loves taking care our patients, ensuring their safety and comfort, monitoring them carefully during their stay in the hospital and while undergoing anesthetic procedures, and helping to communicate with and reassure their owners. On her days off she loves spending time with her husband and two teenage sons, and her sweet little dog Cocoa, and two cats. Monika is fluent in both English and Polish.

Office Manager

Monika started with Applewood Veterinary Hospital in 1999 and after taking a few years leave of absence she just re-joined our team in January 2017. Monika studied Child Psychology in Ryerson University and worked in an Elementary school in an after school program. Monika loves spending her free time with her children. She loves spending time outdoors and always remains a positive attitude in life.

Veterinary Assistant

Agata joined the Applewood Veterinary Hospital in March 2017, after graduating from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture. In the clinic, Agata plays a vital role in helping the clinic run smoothly as she fills her position of reception/veterinary assistant. While she doesn’t currently have any pets, she does have a soft spot for dachshunds, so schedule all your dachshund appointments with her! Outside of work, Agata is an avid reader and loves studying languages. She is bilingual in English and Polish.

Veterinary Assistant

Chanel joined our team in 2018. She loves animals and considers herself to be a cat at heart. When she is not working reception at the clinic or moonlighting as a teddy bear surgeon, she – a seasoned patron of the arts – can be found in her studio painting, creating, and sculpting!

Veterinary Assistant

Agi joined the AVH in early 2019, and is currently in nursing school at Ryerson University. Agi has grown up around an array of animals including rodents, birds and even horses. In her feee time she enjoys reading, dancing, and horseback riding. Agi shares her home with her beautiful Boxer/Bulldog Willow. She looks forwards to helping you and your furry friends! Agi speaks both English and Polish.

Veterinary Assistant

Maya joined AVH in early 2019. She is currently studying Civil Engineering at Seneca College. In her free time she enjoys playing video games, and reading books. She shares her home with Coco her Yorkie, and two canaries. She has always loved animals and enjoys seeing all your beloved furry friends come into the clinic. Maya speaks English and Polish.

Veterinary Assistant

Meredith is a third-year veterinary student at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph,  and has been a part of the Applewood team since 2014. She loves small animal medicine and has a special interest in community outreach and critical care. Her favourite part about working at Applewood? The wonderful, inclusive team environment (despite the fact that her Polish is a little on the rusty side!) and the fact that she learns something new every day thanks to her amazing mentors. When Meredith is not in school or at work, she loves to get fresh air, lift weights, and make travel plans!

Veterinary Assistant

Michael just completed his third year of Life Sciences at McMaster University. He is very interested in pursuing Veterinary Medicine in the future. He enjoys caring for animals, learning about their physiology, and working at the hospital. At a young age, Michael was most likely to be found either reading a giant encyclopedia about wildlife or playing his beloved game “Zoo Tycoon”. He spent countless hours, day upon day, building his own fictional zoos where he would have to feed, heal and breed many different animals. This mindset of his youth remains with him to this day, as owning a zoo continues to be his wildest of dreams. Additionally, Michael is a sports fanatic and enjoys performing and writing music. Michael has worked at Applewood Veterinary Hospital for the last three summers.
