Our Team

Veterinarian, Owner

Dr. Romanowski is a 1988 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. He then gained extensive experience working at a veterinary emergency clinic, as well as a mixed animal clinic where he was involved in the medicine and surgery of both small and large animals. In 1999 he opened Applewood Veterinary Hospital. He has a grown son and daughter, and shares his home with his lovely wife, their two cats, and their German Shepherd Luna who accompanies him on long hikes along the Niagara Escarpment. He has a love for sporting dogs and owns several Arabian horses. When he has some free time he likes traveling  to Florida, where he bikes, swims, and enjoys eating fresh local food. He speaks both Polish and English fluently.

Veterinarian

Dr. Grudzinski graduated from the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program at Wroclaw University in 1980. He moved to Canada and obtained his license from the College of Veterinarians of Ontario in 1995. He practiced mixed animal and emergency medicine, and he is especially interested in small animal surgery. Dr Grudzinski is an avid traveler. He travels to Poland very regularly, where is also practices veterinary medicine. He loves exploring new destinations or revisiting old favourites, attending various conferences, and even partakes in extended hiking aventures of even several weeks duration! He is a proud husband, father, and granfather. He is fluent in English, Polish and also speaks some Russian.

Veterinarian

Urszula has been drawn to animals ever since she can remember. When an intense interest in biology and science blossomed during her school years, pursuing a career in veterinary medicine seemed a perfect fit.  After graduating from the University of Toronto with a degree in Zoology, Urszula obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Guelph’s Ontario Veterinary College in 2011. She has since worked in the GTA and surrounding area. Though she has spent most of her life in Canada, she visits Poland (her country of birth) often, and is fluent in both English and Polish. She shares her life and home with her husband Darren, and their very senior Jack Russell Terrier Soda, Lucy the lovely standard poodle, Sable the cat, and their falconry birds . Having a great love of the outdoors, she spends her free time exploring the local fields and woodlots with the her birds and dogs, hiking, camping, and at the cottage. She also loves reading and playing volleyball.

Veterinarian

Natalia studied Veterinary Medicine at Warsaw University of Life Sciences, and obtained her Degree in 2023. Soon after, she joined our team as a technician. She then became licensed to practise Veterinary Medicine in Ontario in 2024. She is particularly interested in internal medicine of small animals. She lives at home with her two dogs and cat, and during her free time can be found gardening, hiking, and swimming.

Veterinary Technician

Monika started with Applewood Veterinary Hospital in 2005 and after a few years of absence she re-joined our team in 2017. Monika graduated from the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program at Wrocław University in Poland, and works at the clinic in the capacity of a veterinary technician (nurse). She loves taking care our patients, ensuring their safety and comfort, monitoring them carefully during their stay in the hospital and while undergoing anesthetic procedures, and helping to communicate with and reassure their owners. On her days off she loves spending time with her husband and two teenage sons, and her sweet little dog Cocoa, and two cats. Monika is fluent in both English and Polish.

Office Manager

Monika started with Applewood Veterinary Hospital in 1999 and after taking a few years leave of absence she just re-joined our team in January 2017. Monika studied Child Psychology in Ryerson University and worked in an Elementary school in an after school program. Monika loves spending her free time with her children. She loves spending time outdoors and always remains a positive attitude in life.

Veterinary Assistant

Maya is a student at the University of Guelph, studying Animal Science with hopes to attend vet school in the near future. She joined Applewood in 2023 and has enjoyed learning many new things. Maya is an avid equestrian, competing on the Ontario Hunter Jumper circuit during the warmer months. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her dog and three horses.

Veterinary Assistant

Marzena started with Applewood Veterinary Hospital in 2006 and has recently rejoined in 2024. Marzena graduated from the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program at Wrocław University in Poland, and works at the clinic as a veterinary technician/assistant. She loves all animals, with a soft spot for cats. She has had a variety of pets her entire life, currently she has 2 dogs. She also loves hiking, camping, canoeing and exploring the wilderness in her free time. Marzena is fluent in Polish and English.
